Is roof rejuvenation a scam?

Last updated October 28, 2026

Short answer

It is a real product category with written manufacturer warranties behind it, and it is also easy to sell badly. The honest version has five marks: a free measured assessment, a written term, a named product, a warranty from the manufacturer, and a clear statement of what the treatment cannot do.

What makes the category legitimate

Asphalt shingles dry out as the oils leave the asphalt, and a dry shingle stops shedding water the way it did when it was new. Products that work into the shingle surface are a real answer to that, and the treatment here comes with a formal written warranty from the manufacturer, registered after application.

The chemistry is not magic and it is not a new roof. It is maintenance for a surface that is still sound.

What a bad version looks like

The warning signs are consistent. A price over the phone with no visit. A term quoted before the roof has been scored. A promise that the roof is now "like new" or that storms cannot damage it. A warranty that lives only on the invoice.

Another mark is a coating sold as rejuvenation: a film laid over the shingles is a different product with a different failure mode, because it can lift, blister or trap moisture.

  • No visit, no measurement, a number on the spot
  • A warranty term the manufacturer does not issue
  • Claims about hurricanes, wind or storm immunity
  • A film or coating described as a penetrating treatment
  • No written scope of what is being applied

The five checks you can make

Ask for the assessment, the score, the treatment name, the warranty term with its coverage type, and the exclusion list. Any honest operator can produce all five in writing.

Then check the term against the published manufacturer table. A term that does not appear in the table is not a term anyone can issue.

What we publish, and what we do not

This site publishes no review counts, no "hundreds of homeowners" claims and no prices, because none of those can be verified here. What it does publish is the treatment range, the score bands, the warranty table and the assessment process.

If a claim is not on this site, treat it as a claim and ask for it in writing.

The one question that settles it

Ask what the treatment cannot do. An operator who answers that question plainly, without deflecting, is describing a product they understand.

For us the answer is on the record: a leak is a repair, a metal roof is not eligible, a failed roof needs replacing, and storm damage sits outside the cover.
