Can you treat a patio and walkway at the same time as my roof?

Short answer

Yes, and it is worth asking for both at the same assessment. Concrete patios, walkways and steps are the same service as the roof, so one visit can be planned around the surfaces you want protected rather than booking twice.

Same visit, two surfaces

The roof is asphalt shingle; the patio and walkway are exterior flat concrete. Different materials, different products, one assessment and one estimate.

Tell us about both when you send the request, so the scope covers everything you want looked at.

Why the concrete is worth including

Concrete is porous, so water and salt go into it rather than sitting on the surface, and the runoff from the roof lands right beside it. The two surfaces are exposed to the same weather on the same property.

A patio or walkway that holds water through a freeze is where flaking and pitting start.

What gets decided on the day

Each surface is assessed on its own condition, and each gets its own scope. Cracked, heaved or spalling concrete is a repair before it is a treatment, on the patio just as on a driveway.

The estimate lists them separately, so you can decide on the roof, the concrete, or both.

What to have ready

The address, and a note of which surfaces you want looked at: roof, driveway, patio, walkway, steps. If any of them has cracked or flaked already, say so, because that changes the plan.

The assessment is free and there is no obligation on any part of it.

The same questions a roof raises

People ask the same three things about concrete that they ask about a roof: whether it is worth it, how long it lasts and what it does not do. The answers follow the same logic. It is worth it on a sound slab that is taking water and salt; the surface is protected rather than replaced; and it is not a repair and not a permanent shield.

It follows the same rule on honesty too: if the slab is too far gone, a treatment is not the answer, and we say that at the visit rather than after the work is booked.

Why one visit is better than two

A single assessment looks at the property as a whole, which is how water actually behaves there: the roof sheds onto the ground, the ground drains toward or away from the slab, and both surfaces see the same weather.

  • One score for the roof, one condition check for each concrete surface
  • One estimate listing each surface separately, so you can choose
  • No second visit to arrange, and no second round of questions
