The hail line, exactly
Hail is covered on one row: Fortify Elite on a roof scored Good, for 5 years alongside the 20-year term. The hail has to be up to 2 inches and verified by the U.S. National Weather Service.
That is the whole of the hail cover. Every other row excludes hail, and so does this one once its five years have passed.
Treatment failure only
The clause covers hail where the treatment itself failed, which is narrower than hail damage in general. A treated shingle field breaking down after a verified hail event is the case it is written for.
What it is not: a second storm policy. Wind-lifted shingles, dented metal, damaged vents and anything inside the house stay outside the cover on every row, including the one that carries hail.
Documenting a hail claim
The National Weather Service verification is the part to have ready: the storm date and the record for your area. Photographs of the affected slope help, and so does a note of when the damage appeared.
A claim is reported within 60 days of noticing, and answered within 30 business days of complete documents arriving.
Hail and the rest of the roof
Hail is one event on a long list a roof faces. Sun, heat, water and freeze-thaw are the forces the treatment itself is built against, and the warranty covers the failure modes the treatment is responsible for: premature peeling, curling or warping caused by the treatment, and water penetration through the treated shingle.
Storm damage beyond the hail line is excluded, on every row.
Where to check it in writing
The hail line is the only place in the terms where a weather event is covered, and it sits on the Fortify Elite Good row alone. If the roof scored lower, the honest answer is the row its band supports, which carries no hail at all.
The written terms that come with the estimate carry the full clause, and the coverage-over-time chart on the warranty page shows the five-year window against the rest of the term.
If hail is the reason you are weighing one treatment against another, raise it on the day the estimate arrives. It applies to a single row, at the top band, with a size condition attached, and that is worth knowing before the work rather than after a storm.
